Drongen Abbey is a historic monument dating back to 1138, when the Norbertin monks founded the abbey. The Abbey, located about 6 km from Ghent
, is situated along the river Lys in a picturesque park of 25 acres, containing gardens, ponds, orchards and meadows. The facilities of the abbey
consist of conference rooms, dining rooms and en-suite bedrooms.
The Abbey is easily accessible, both by train (8 minute walk to the railway station) and car (5 kms. from the E40 highway). Both
Brussels and Lille airports are within easy reach. If you come by train, choose for a seniors ticket (+ 65) at € 7.20, valid during
the week from 9 a.m. and anytime at weekends.
Some reasons why you should definitely visit Ghent:
- Lonely Planet has called our city “Europe’s best kept secret” and a must see destination for 2011.
- National Geographic Traveler Magazine has listed this city as the most authentic historic city in the world and full of life.
- You can witness with your own eyes what Napoleon and the mysterious thief of ‘The Just Judges’ panel already knew: The Mystic Lamb
really is key to European art history.
Andrew Shaw (UK)
Andrew Shaw was dragged kicking and screaming to his first country dance as a teenager in the 60s but has got over that. Now he is one
of the UK's most sought after English country dance leaders, highly regarded for his detailed knowledge, high standards and clear
, good-humoured, instruction. His interest in late 17th/early 18th century dances, especially those composed by Nathaniel Kynaston
, has resulted in the publication of 5 collections of dance reconstructions, Elephants Stairs being the latest. This is his 6th visit
to the Spring Weekend.
